古人云“立身以立學(xué)為先,立學(xué)以讀書(shū)為本”。讀書(shū)可以令學(xué)生們?cè)鲩L(zhǎng)見(jiàn)識(shí),提升素養(yǎng),是幫助他們成長(zhǎng)的最好選擇。在這同時(shí),閱讀也是在第二語(yǔ)言的學(xué)習(xí)中得到公認(rèn)的最安定,最永久的形式。
George R.R. Martin said, "A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies… The man who never reads lives only one.” Reading can enable students to broaden their critical thinking skills, which is the best choice to help them grow. At the same time, reading is recognized as the most stable and permanent method to learn a second language.
為了培養(yǎng)學(xué)生們的讀書(shū)興趣,創(chuàng)造更好的語(yǔ)言學(xué)習(xí)環(huán)境,“威力塔斯閱讀體系”應(yīng)運(yùn)而生。該系統(tǒng)引進(jìn)自美國(guó)的定制化英語(yǔ)讀寫學(xué)習(xí)解決方案Achieve3000, 通過(guò)以 “讀前測(cè)評(píng)”“閱讀文章推送”“閱讀后持續(xù)評(píng)估”“閱讀獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)計(jì)劃”四步為核心步驟,幫助學(xué)生們養(yǎng)成受益終身的閱讀習(xí)慣,提高他們的閱讀理解和寫作能力,從而達(dá)到令學(xué)生們從被動(dòng)學(xué)習(xí)中解脫出來(lái),變?yōu)橹鲃?dòng)學(xué)習(xí)。
Veritas is establishing a Veritas Literacy Program in order to develop the students' interest in reading and to create a better second language learning environment. This program used Achieve3000 as a reference. There are four steps in the program. First is "The Reading Assessment", second is "The Active Reader", third is “Re-Assessment", and the fourth is “Reading Incentives.” These four steps help the students benefit from lifelong reading habits, improve their reading comprehension and writing ability, so as to allow the students to transition from passive learning to active learning.
讀前評(píng)測(cè)|The Reading Assessment
第一步,此閱讀體系的“讀前測(cè)評(píng)”已經(jīng)在2018年11月29日開(kāi)始實(shí)施,評(píng)估結(jié)果會(huì)在全體學(xué)生們測(cè)試后公布。“閱讀系統(tǒng)”將根據(jù)測(cè)試分?jǐn)?shù)把學(xué)生的閱讀能力進(jìn)行分級(jí),從3-11級(jí)不等,提供相對(duì)應(yīng)的解決提高方案,讓同學(xué)們?cè)陂喿x中感受快樂(lè),提高興趣。
Step 1: The Reading Assessment
The reading assessment is intended to test our students and determine their reading grade level. We test our students on the grade levels that are suggested by our Literacy Department which includes English and Omnibus teachers. Each student reads an interesting and relevant passage, and then the students will answer the comprehension questions that follow. After gathering the data to determine the reading grade level for each student, we will inform the students and their parents.
閱讀文章推送|The Active Reader
第二步:“閱讀文章推送”環(huán)節(jié)是根據(jù)學(xué)生們測(cè)試后的等級(jí),為其提供相對(duì)應(yīng)水平的閱讀書(shū)單,以便家長(zhǎng)與學(xué)生共同選擇所適合的、感興趣的書(shū)籍展開(kāi)閱讀學(xué)習(xí),并完成閱讀系統(tǒng)要求的、相應(yīng)的閱讀日記。
Step 2: The Active Reader
Starting in January 2019, every month each student will be assigned a book which compliments their reading level. Students are advised to read their book during their free time and will create journal entries for each chapter of the book. Twice a month students will have an opportunity to share their journal entries in our school wide morning assembly.
閱讀后持續(xù)評(píng)估|Re-Assessment
第三步:“閱讀后持續(xù)評(píng)估”是在學(xué)生們閱讀二個(gè)月后開(kāi)始進(jìn)行。其目的是為了對(duì)學(xué)生們的閱讀情況進(jìn)行檢測(cè),并計(jì)入成績(jī),以便循序漸進(jìn),逐步提高。
Step 3: Re-Assessment
Midway through the semester, students will be reassessed to check their reading level proficiency. Our school’s goal is to enhance our students’ reading abilities with active reading behaviors. We hope our active readers will elevate their reading skills to their appropriate grade level or higher, which will make them confident readers, great writers and excellent critical thinkers.
閱讀獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)計(jì)劃|Reading Incentives
第四步:“閱讀獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)計(jì)劃”是為了鼓勵(lì)并培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的閱讀興趣設(shè)立的。閱讀中心會(huì)在每學(xué)年末給考核合格的學(xué)生們頒發(fā)閱讀等級(jí)證書(shū)。“免費(fèi)電影票”,“主題游樂(lè)園”,“免寫作業(yè)機(jī)會(huì)”,“給你一本你喜歡的書(shū)”等獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)計(jì)劃同時(shí)在學(xué)期期間不定期舉行。閱讀表現(xiàn)突出的學(xué)生將有機(jī)會(huì)入選學(xué)校形象大使和優(yōu)秀學(xué)生的資格。
Step 4: Reading Incentives
A Reading Awards Program is established to motivate students’ interest in reading. The literacy center will issue a Reading Certificate to the qualified students at the end of each academic school year. The program provides rewards such as movie nights, theme park visits, free homework passes and free books. Students with outstanding reading performance will have the opportunity to be selected as the school ambassador.
威力塔斯閱讀體系|Veritas Literacy Program“威力塔斯閱讀體系”是學(xué)校為學(xué)生們量身定制的最新教育培養(yǎng)方式,期望學(xué)生們可以通過(guò)閱讀建立自己的思維方式,培養(yǎng)學(xué)習(xí)興趣,最終可以從一個(gè)閱讀者變?yōu)樗伎颊撸M(jìn)而蛻變?yōu)橘摺U^“浮躁的社會(huì),心靜者勝出”
The Veritas Literacy Program is a new education training method tailored for students by the school. Through this program, students can establish their own thinking mode and cultivate their interest in learning through reading. We hope that eventually they will change from a reader to a thinker and then to a leader. In this so-called "impetuous society, calm people win."

Reading is a long and arduous task, so our emphasis is on cultivating interest. I would like to express my thanks to Mr. Sun, Xingang and Ms. Li, Hongyan, members of the parents committee, for their feedback. I also look forward to more opinions from parents on this project. I hope that we can pool our wisdom and make joint efforts with the school to help our students develop into exceptional learners and leaders.

Yenandani Deodat
Deodat老師畢業(yè)于佛羅里達(dá)大西洋大學(xué)獲得文學(xué)學(xué)士學(xué)位,在佛羅里達(dá)州公立中學(xué)有多年任教經(jīng)驗(yàn),持6-12年級(jí)英語(yǔ)教師執(zhí)照。Deodat老師目前在北京校區(qū)教授英語(yǔ)閱讀、美國(guó)文學(xué)課程。

孫蕾老師旅美二十余年,畢業(yè)于美國(guó)公立名校明尼蘇達(dá)大學(xué),先后作為ESL老師任教于明尼蘇達(dá)州、伊利諾伊州以及湖南工業(yè)大學(xué),擅長(zhǎng)與不同文化背景的學(xué)生進(jìn)行有效溝通,善于鼓勵(lì)學(xué)生、創(chuàng)造積極的英文學(xué)習(xí)環(huán)境。
